PVD installation at Stoney Trail Avenue 194 SE, Boundary crossing
Canada

For HCM Contractors Inc. we were asked to rapidly install vertical wick drains for Stoney Trail Avenue. This road was designed to provide access to a new residential area. The challenging part of this project was a large top-soil layer of extremely stiff clays with resistance up to 50mPA which is usually found in sand layers. The first solution was to work with Vibro equipment, but that would lower our production. We decided, instead, to use traditional pre-drilling in combination with a very strong PVD rig with an installation force up to 35 tons. We rapidly mobilized a compatible unit from Mexico City to Canada. We chose this solution, to speed up production. We managed to overcome the challenges and successfully installed our PVD. The depth was variable from 12 to 15 meters.
